Fungi

At present there are in the Netherlands and its neighbouring countries, no government-established Occupational Exposure Limits set for Fungi (germs, molds, mushrooms and yeast), as far as we know. In the literature a number of limits are suggested, however these values do not have a formal status. The EC Directive 90/679/EEC "Protection of employees against the risks posed by biological substances" has been implemented into national laws, without any health-based OEL.

In the Netherlands and in Germany some Limit Values are given, above which protective measures are prescribed (in Germany: the Technische Regeln fοΏ½r Biologische Arbeitsstoffe; in the Netherlands: Arbo-Informatieblad 'Biologische agentia' (nr 9)).

The unit for presenting OEL's for Fungi or Germs is: colony-forming units (CFU) per m3.

The method of measurement used considered the most appropriate is the 'N6 modificatie Anderson sampler', with with various growth media.
