TEEL Database (def.)

TEEL Database

The US Department of Energy (DOE) has set up Protective Action Criteria. They consist of:

* AEGL's = Acute Exposure Guideline Levels: exposure limits for the general public and are applicalbe to emergency exposures ranging from 10 minutes to 8 hours.

* ERPG's = Emergency Response Planning Guidelines: the maximum concentration in air which is believed nearly all individuals could be exposed for to one hours without experiencing other than mild transient adverse health effects or perceiving a clearly defined objectionable odor.

* TEEL's = Temporary Emergency Exposure Limit: the airborne concentration of a substance above which it is predicted that the general population, including sceptible individuals, when exposed for more than one hour, could experience any health effect (3 levels of TEEL's describe the type of health effect).

In the PAC-database, next to the AEGL/ERPG/TEEL-limits, also physical-chemical properties are presented.
