COSHH Essentials Hazard Groups
In 1999 the British Health and Safety Executive (HSE) published a classification scheme in the framework of the COSHH Essentials. In this scheme the harmfulness of substances and their 'airworthiness' are arranged. The harm was not determined by Occupational Limit Values but with the much larger database of established R-phrases of the European Union for irritating (Xi), harmful (Xn), corrosive (C), toxic (T, T+) properties of substances, along with classifications for carcinogenicity, mutagenicity and toxicity for reproduction. In 2009 this scheme was replaced by a new one based on the [H-statements](../03_substance_properties/GHS Hazard Statement Codes.md) from the CLP Regulation.
The following table shows the H-statements used in the classification scheme of COSHH Essentials.
